Independent Certification Body
Certification process overview
How Certification Works
ElitePetz certification follows a consistent, documented process from application and administrative review through decision, activation, the certification term, and renewal or status action. Each stage is recorded to support accountability and reliable public verification.
This process is current as of July 2026 and follows the ElitePetz Certification Standards (version 1.0)
Process at a glance
A clear path.
A documented record.
Every submission creates an administrative record. Applications then move through the same six-stage framework, providing applicants with a clear path and preserving the information needed for future verification.
Consistent
Applications are reviewed against the same published certification requirements.
Documented
Decisions, activation, and later status changes are retained in the certification history.
Verifiable
Active certifications are published in the ElitePetz Certification Registry.

The certification process
Certification is not active upon submission or approval alone. Public certification begins only after all activation requirements are completed and the registry record is published.
1
Step 1
Application submission
The applicant submits a certification application through the official ElitePetz application portal.
Required information includes
-
Legal or operating name
-
Contact information
-
Country of operation
-
Species and breed focus
-
Description of breeding activities
-
Agreement to the published standards
Every submission creates an administrative record, regardless of the final outcome.
2
Step 2
Administrative review
ElitePetz reviews the application against its published certification requirements.
The review may include
-
Review of the submitted information
-
Verification of required disclosures
-
Assessment against certification requirements
-
Requests for clarification or supporting documentation
An incomplete response to a request for additional information may delay or prevent a final decision.
3
Not approved
The application does not meet the certification requirements at the time of review.
Approved
The application meets the certification requirements and is eligible to proceed to activation.
Step 3
Decision
After completing its review, ElitePetz issues one of two determinations.
The decision and its date are retained as part of the administrative certification record.
4
Step 4
Activation
An approved applicant completes any remaining administrative requirements, including payment of applicable certification fees. ElitePetz then publishes the certification record in the public registry.
Certification becomes active only after all activation requirements are complete and the public registry record has been published.
5
Step 5
Certification term
Once activated, certification remains valid for the term shown in the public registry unless a subsequent administrative action changes its status.
During the certification term
-
The registry displays the certification’s current status
-
Complaints or evidence submissions may trigger review
-
Material changes may require updated information
-
Status changes become part of the certification history
6
Step 6
Renewal or status action
Before the certification term ends, the certified entity may apply for renewal. Based on the renewal review, compliance findings, or another authorized administrative review, the certification may be renewed, allowed to expire, suspended, or revoked.
Renewed
Expired
Suspended
Revoked
All status actions are handled under applicable ElitePetz governance and enforcement policies and are reflected in the certification record.
What each milestone means
Submission begins the administrative process; it does not indicate approval or certification.
Approval confirms eligibility to proceed to activation; it does not by itself create an active public certification.
Activation occurs only after remaining requirements are complete and the registry record is published.
Registry status is the authoritative public indicator of whether a certification is active, expired, suspended, or revoked.
